CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY
Church Missionary Trust Association" (CMTA) most likely refers to an organization associated with the "Church Missionary Society" (CMS), an Anglican missionary society focused on sending missionaries to various parts of the world, particularly in Africa, where they often work in challenging "edge" contexts like Muslim-majority areas or conflict zones; essentially, the CMTA would likely be a trust or funding body supporting the CMS's missionary work.

The Church Missionary Society (CMS) is indeed an Anglican missionary organization, historically focused on spreading Christianity, particularly in regions outside of Europe. Founded in 1799, CMS's work has largely centered on evangelism, church planting, education, and medical outreach in areas where the gospel has had limited penetration or in places facing cultural and political challenges. The organization's efforts have been particularly strong in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific.
As for the Church Missionary Trust Association (CMTA), it's likely a funding or trust entity that supports CMS's missionary activities. While specific details about CMTA might vary depending on the country or context, here’s a more detailed explanation of its probable role:
Key Features of CMS and CMTA:
CMS’s Mission Focus: CMS is engaged in cross-cultural mission, often working in regions with complex socio-political challenges, such as conflict zones, Muslim-majority areas, and unreached people groups. This includes church planting, training local leaders, and providing social services like education and healthcare.
CMTA’s Likely Role: The CMTA is probably a trust fund or financial management entity that helps secure, manage, and disburse resources to support CMS's activities. It may handle donations, legacy gifts, and other forms of funding that sustain CMS’s missionary endeavors.
Supporting Missionaries: The CMTA would help raise and allocate funds for sending missionaries and supporting those already in the field.
Sustainable Support: It may focus on creating long-term, sustainable financial structures to ensure that the CMS’s mission continues over time, even as the world and church contexts change.
Administering Grants and Donations: It could also manage donations from supporters, church members, and philanthropic bodies, ensuring that the funds are directed toward effective mission work.
Historical Context: Given that CMS is one of the oldest missionary societies, CMTA might have a long history, likely evolved from earlier models of missionary financing, ensuring accountability and long-term viability.
In short, the CMTA would serve as a key financial backbone to CMS’s worldwide mission work, providing the necessary resources and infrastructure to enable CMS to continue reaching out to diverse communities globally. It functions alongside CMS’s evangelistic and church-building activities, ensuring that missionaries on the ground have the support they need to engage in their work effectively.
My Ancestral History with CMS
My family has a rich and impactful history of service to both the church and the community. My great-grandfather, grandfather, and uncle were all deeply involved in the CMS mission, and their dedication to both spiritual and social work has been inspiring. From my great-grandfather's role as a priest and missionary to my uncle, Bishop James Subbay Khan, who played a prominent role in the Lahore Church Council and CMS, it also seems that service to others has been a central theme in our family.
Bishop James Subbay Khan served as the Bishop of CMS and Lahore Church council. He passed away In 2008 and after him his son Dr. Naseem Qaiser and myself Bishop Dr. Emmanuel Irshad took over the proceedings to date
My own work as Bishop Dr. Emmanuel Irshad, alongside Dr. Naseem Qaser, carries forward this important legacy. Even despite facing challenges and difficulties, we continue to serve the CMS and Methodist Church with dedication.
If there's anything specific you'd like to share or discuss, whether it’s about the mission or any reflections on your family's journey, I'd be happy to listen and help in any way I can.
